Intermediate Resources

The videos and sheet music can be used separately or together for learning. The pack is designed to be directed to aural learning, but the sheet music is a useful addition for checking and recall.
Start with the scale and ornament videos for secure pitch and rhythm preparation. Then move onto the A and B part melody videos which break down these sections into phrases. The remaining melody videos are to practise the tune at different speeds. Start with the lower numbers for a slower tempo and increase gradually to avoid practising mistakes.
The harmony/ accompaniment videos follow the same format. These can be used for a variety of purposes: 1. to learn an extra element (extension); 2. for instruments more suited to harmony playing (particularly chordal instruments); and 3. to play melody against. Accompanists can practise with the melody videos.
Listen and look at details in bowing and ornamentation. These are the elements that help to create style and expression in music and can change a tune from a collection of notes to a musical story.
